Producer Kathleen Kennedy Updates About Jurassic Park 4: It's All ...

It?s been over a decade since we last got a Jurassic Park movie, and the rumors of a fourth film have been floating around the internet nearly as long. The long-gestating project gained a bit of forward momentum this past July when Rise of the Planet of the Apes screenwriters Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver were hired to rewrite the script. According to producer Kathleen Kennedy, however, we probably still have a while before we?ll see a fourth Jurassic Park film, because they want to make sure they?ve got a story and a script that makes it worth revisiting the franchise.

Speaking to Coming Soon, Kennedy emphasized that they didn?t want to make a fourth film simply because they can:

It?s really hard to keep these things going when there?s an expectation and a desire by the public and the audience to keep certain franchises going. As filmmakers, we often sit there going, ?Okay. We have to answer the question, ?Why do another one?? If you can?t answer that question, you shouldn?t be doing it. It?s tough. We?re trying to come up with a story that makes sense and isn?t going to disappoint people and is, hopefully, going to get people excited and reinvigorate the franchise. We?ve got to start with a script and the story.

It?s nice to hear a producer stress the importance of actually having a solid script before they actually start shooting. You would think that would be a given, but we?ve all seen countless cases where a movie that has good potential is hamstrung by a flawed, sloppy script (*coughcoughPrometheuscough*). With a franchise like Jurassic Park, where it?s been so long since the last installment, it would be all too easy to rush out a lazy cash-in sequel. But Men in Black proved that you can revitalize a dusty old franchise if you do it right.

With Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver on script duties, Jurassic Park 4 might actually have a shot. Their Apes movie found a way to reintroduce the franchise in a big way, going on to earn nearly half a billion dollars worldwide. Even better, it was actually a pretty good flick. If they can work the same magic on Jurassic Park, we might actually get a worthwhile story instead of just a new excuse to sell dinosaur toys.

You know you can change the color on the outside of your home when you get it repainted.
Having painted over 1,000 exteriors, it amazes me how 90% keep the same color. I believe it is
just because they can't visualize something different. You can get a paint sample and paint a small area to see if you like it. Sometimes just changing the shade, going a little darker, can make a dramatic difference. Try changing this up the next time you get your exterior painted.

Oil climbs above $99; gasoline at avg. $3.86

NEW YORK (AP) ? The price of oil is rising Monday, adding to a big gain last week after the U.S. Federal Reserve announced new steps to boost the U.S. economy.

Benchmark crude gained 44 cents to $99.44 in early trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Oil ended 2.7 percent higher last week.

The Fed's plan, which includes keeping interest rates at extraordinarily low rates into 2015, gives investors the incentive to put their money into riskier assets like commodities. But the higher oil rises, the more analysts believe consumers will pull back on spending.

While higher oil prices tend to drive up prices at the pump, the end of the summer driving season means demand should drop.

The national average for gasoline Monday is $3.862, down slightly from Friday.

Tips On How To Care For Your Ceramic Tile Floor | Improvement ...

Ceramic tile floors have an awful lot going for them, including a beautiful appearance, and ease of maintenance. But as with all flooring, care is needed to make sure that it lasts a good long time. Fortunately, ceramic tile floors are one of the easiest floors to care for and here are some suggestions to help you do that.

Actually, the best form of care is prevention and constant attention. Of course, floors are going to get dirty from time to time no matter what you do. And ceramic tile floors are no exception. But there are a few things you can do to minimize the frequency of heavy cleaning jobs on your ceramic tile floor.

The first is to practice constant awareness by cleaning up any spills on the floor right away. Don't let them dry on the floor. If you do, they will only attract far more dirt to the floor before you finally get it cleaned up. Also be sure to sweep and dry mop your ceramic floor very often. Dirt that is not allowed to stay on the floor long will not be able to be ground in and become hard to remove. So be vigilant about protecting the floor by sweeping and mopping regularly.

Another helpful idea that can cut down on much of your work and maintenance on a ceramic tile floor is to place mats in strategic locations that are good at catching dirt off the bottom of people's shoes before they walk into the room. It's much easier to clean these mats from time to time than it is to have to sweep and mop your whole ceramic tile floor more regularly. The mats also don't show dirt nearly as much as the floor will.

But despite all your efforts, you will have to do a thorough cleaning of your ceramic tile floor at times. It's probably a good idea to check with your flooring manufacturer's recommendations on what floor cleaner you should use before you get started. There are several all-purpose cleaners on the market that claim to do a great job on ceramic tile floors, but just be sure that you test them out first before using them on the entire floor. Another consideration is to make sure that your tile cleaner is compatible with the grout that was used on your ceramic tile floor as well. Once again, your floor manufacturer can usually help out with the answer to that question too.

For cleaning, first sweep up all loose dirt with a broom or vacuum it. Then mix up your cleanser with warm water. Using a soft cotton mop or sponge mop apply the cleanser solution to the floor. Be careful not to allow the solution to dry on the ceramic tiles, so it's best to do a portion of the floor at a time and rinse the floor often. If the floor is very heavily soiled, you may even have to allow the solution to soak on the floor for a few minutes before mopping or scrubbing it.

If your ceramic tile has a glossy or shiny finish, you may even need to dry it with a soft towel to prevent water spots showing up as the solution dries.

As you can see, ceramic tile floors are not very difficult to care for under any circumstances, but if you take a few extra precautions, and give the floor regular attention, your floor will always look great and will need very little maintenance.

Microsoft taking on aggressive new Nitol botnet | Technology | KPIC ...

WASHINGTON (AP) - A customer in Shenzhen, China, took a new laptop out of its box and booted it up for the first time. But as the screen lit up, the computer began taking on a life of its own. The machine, triggered by a virus hidden in its hard drive, began searching across the Internet for another computer.

The laptop, supposedly in pristine, super-fast, direct-from-the-factory condition, had instantly become part of an illegal, global network capable of attacking websites, looting bank accounts and stealing personal data.

For years, online investigators have warned consumers about the dangers of opening or downloading emailed files from unknown or suspicious sources. Now, they say malicious software and computer code could be lurking on computers before the bubble wrap even comes off.

The shopper in this case was part of a team of Microsoft researchers in China investigating the sale of counterfeit software. They received a sudden introduction to malware called Nitol. The incident was revealed in court documents unsealed Thursday in a federal court in Virginia. The records describe a new front in a legal campaign against cybercrime being waged by the maker of the Windows operating system, which is the biggest target for viruses.

The documents are part of a computer fraud lawsuit filed by Microsoft against a web domain registered to a Chinese businessman named Peng Yong. The company says the domain is a major hub for illicit Internet activity, home base for Nitol and more than 500 other types of malware, which makes it the largest single repository of infected software that Microsoft officials have encountered.

Peng, the owner of an Internet services firm, said he was not aware of the Microsoft suit. He denied the allegations and said his company does not tolerate improper conduct on the domain, 3322.org. Three other unidentified individuals accused by Microsoft of establishing and operating the Nitol network are also named in the suit.

What emerges most vividly from the court records and interviews with Microsoft officials is a disturbing picture of how vulnerable Internet users have become, in part because of weaknesses in computer supply chains. To increase their profit margins, less reputable computer manufacturers and retailers may use counterfeit copies of popular software products to build machines more cheaply. Plugging the holes is nearly impossible, especially in less regulated markets such as China, and that leaves openings for cybercriminals.

"They're really changing the ways they try to attack you," said Richard Boscovich, a former federal prosecutor and a senior attorney in Microsoft's digital crimes unit.

Distance doesn't equal safety. Nitol, for example, is an aggressive virus found on computers in China, the United States, Russia, Australia and Germany. Microsoft has even identified servers in the Cayman Islands controlling Nitol-infected machines. All these compromised computers become part of a botnet, or collection of compromised computers; it's one of the most invasive and persistent forms of cybercrime.

Nitol appears poised to strike. Infection rates have peaked, according to Patrick Stratton, a senior manager in Microsoft's digital crimes unit who filed a document in the court case explaining Nitol and its connection to the 3322.org domain.

For Microsoft, pursuing cybercriminals is a smart business. Its Windows operating system runs most of the computers connected to the Internet. Victims of malware are likely to believe their problems stem from Windows instead of a virus they are unaware of, and that damages the company's brand and reputation.

But more than Microsoft's image is stake when counterfeit products are tainted by malware that spreads so rapidly, Boscovich said. "It's more than simply a traditional intellectual property issue," Boscovich said. "It's now become a security issue."

The investigation by Microsoft's digital crimes unit began in August 2011 as a study into the sale and distribution of counterfeit versions of Windows. Microsoft employees in China bought 20 new computers from retailers and took them back to a home with an Internet connection.

They found forged versions of Windows on all the machines and malware already installed on four. The one with Nitol, however, was the most alarming because the malware was active.

"As soon as we powered on this particular computer, of its own accord without any instruction from us, it began reaching out across the Internet, attempting to contact a computer unfamiliar to us," Stratton said in the document filed with the court.

The laptop was made by Hedy, a computer manufacturer in Guangzhou, China, according to the court records. The company, reached by phone, declined to answer questions.

Stratton and his colleagues also found Nitol to be highly contagious. They inserted a thumb drive into the computer and the virus immediately copied itself onto it. When the drive was inserted into a separate machine, Nitol quickly copied itself on to it.

Microsoft examined thousands of samples of Nitol, which has several variants, and all of them connected to command-and-control servers associated with the 3322.org domain, according to the court records.

"In short, 3322.org is a major hub of illegal Internet activity, used by criminals every minute of every day to pump malware and instructions to the computers of innocent people worldwide," Microsoft said in its lawsuit.

Peng, the registered owner of 3322.org, said he has "zero tolerance" for the misuse of domain names and works with Chinese law enforcement whenever there are complaints. Still, he said, his huge customer base makes policing difficult.

"Our policy unequivocally opposes the use of any of our domain names for malicious purposes," Peng said in a private chat via Sina Weibo, a service like Twitter that's very popular in China. "We currently have 2.85 million domain names and cannot exclude that individual users might be using domain names for malicious purposes."

Peng is the founder and chief executive of Bitcomm, a company he and his wife own. They founded an earlier company, which started 3322.org in 2001. Bitcomm took over the domain in 2007.

Past warnings by other online security firms have been ignored by Peng, according to Boscovich. 3322.org accounted for more than 17 percent of the world's malicious web transactions in 2009, according to Zscaler, a computer security firm in San Jose, Calif. In 2008, Russian security company Kaspersky Lab reported that 40 percent of all malware programs, at one point or another, connected to 3322.org.

U.S. District Judge Gerald Bruce Lee, who is presiding in the case, granted a request from Microsoft to begin steering Internet traffic from 3322.org that has been infected by Nitol and other malwares to a special site called a sinkhole. From there, Microsoft can alert affected computer users to update their anti-virus protection and remove Nitol from their machines.

Since Lee issued the order, more than 37 million malware connections have been blocked from 3322.org, according to Microsoft.

Candidate uses porn clips to sex up Bosnia race

(AP) ? A mayoral candidate in Bosnia's fourth-largest city is using one of the Internet's greatest lures ? pornography ? to draw attention to his campaign.

Mirad Hadziahmetovic is an independent candidate with a relatively slim chance of winning the October election in Zenica.

He said Thursday that he decided to upload pornographic video clips to his official campaign site after realizing that large numbers of people use the Web to peruse sexual content.

To view the material on his site, visitors must answer questions, such as "What is more important for Zenica, job creation or filling of the municipal budget?"

At the end of each clip there is a separately recorded video of Hadziahmetovic talking directly to camera and saying: "If you liked this clip, vote for me."

2nd 911 call from home of Tex Tech coach Gillispie

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) ? An ambulance was sent to the home of Texas Tech coach Billy Gillispie for the second time in 10 days while he remains on leave as the school investigates his leadership of the program.

Lubbock Police Sgt. Jeff Baker said Tuesday that the emergency call came from Gillispie's home around 6 p.m. Monday and that an ambulance was sent.

A spokesman for University Medical Center, where Gillispie earlier spent six days this month, said Gillispie did not come there. A spokeswoman for the other hospital in Lubbock said Gillispie was not brought there.

Gillispie, in a text message to The Associated Press late Tuesday, said he would be treated for high blood pressure "amongst other things," at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Texas Tech spokesman Blayne Beal said Gillispie told athletic director Kirby Hocutt he was going to the Minnesota medical facility for treatment.

"We hope Billy Gillispie has a full recovery, but we cannot wait forever as we have a basketball team that starts practice soon," Hocutt said in a statement.

"In the meantime, associate head coach Chris Walker will assume the responsibility for day-to-day operations of our men's basketball program. Coach Walker will help ensure that leadership and accountability will be in place for our student-athletes, assistant coaches and staff."

Gillispie is on indefinite sick leave and Hocutt said he is no longer making day-to-day decisions for the basketball program so he can focus on his health.

"Nor is he to engage with our program in any way until he and I have a chance to sit down and talk face to face," Hocutt said.

On Aug. 31, Gillispie called 911 and was taken to the medical center. It was the same day he was supposed to meet with Hocutt to discuss allegations he had mistreated his players. The school has reported excessive practice-time violations to the NCAA and reprimanded Gillispie in January.

Gillispie told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal on Aug. 31 that he felt like he was having a heart attack or a stroke when he called 911. Doctors told Gillispie his blood pressure was dangerously high, the paper reported.

The school penalized itself for the practice overage, docking twice the number of hours that Gillispie had exceeded during a two-week period in October or 12 hours and 20 minutes. An unidentified assistant coach was also reprimanded.

The NCAA allows 20 hours of practice per week.

Hocutt said the school continues to "work through the process" of looking into allegations players brought to him Aug. 29. Gillispie's assistant coaches, with Hocutt's oversight, are handling the program for now.

Hocutt did not put a timetable on when he and Gillispie would meet.

"I can't anticipate given the other issues related to his health," he said. "With basketball season officially starting practice in a month, the sooner the better."

Hocutt has declined to say whether Gillispie could be fired. He has said he was "very troubled" by the information players had given him.

Hired in March 2011, Gillispie came to Texas Tech after two years out of coaching. The school and fans had hoped he could orchestrate another remarkable turnaround, like the ones he put together at UTEP and Texas A&M.

He went to Kentucky in 2007 but the school fired him in 2009 after it went 40-27 in his two seasons and missed the NCAA tournament for the first time in 17 years.

'How to Make Money in Real Estate' and 'Foreclosure Investing' is a subject matter of the author's first book focused on novices seeking to make money online, or make money from home, by becoming a foreclosure real estate investor using their laptop.?? It shows people how easy it can be to achieve success online with the right formula, the right approach, rolodex, and market.
?
Written by Chris Jenkins, an online real estate investor and trainer, the eBook describes how to get started making money in foreclosure real estate with its quick cash generation strategies, by primarily using a laptop and wireless connection.??
?
Readers of the first in his series on 'How To Make Money in Real Estate from Home', are thrilled to discover that even in today's day and age, to become a real estate investor you do not need to worry about your credit scores or actually using your own cash.? As Jenkins puts it, 'To make money in real estate and become a foreclosure investor, you really need to locate the deal and follow the right plan to make thousands ? or tens of thousands in cash ? from the deal without even closing on it.' ?
?
This is just one of several basic techniques Jenkins teaches beginners on how to make money in property deals quickly.? He is not a believer in overwhelming readers with hundreds of pages of text.?

'It's relatively simple ? find a deal, evaluate it, flip it, and deposit your checks, then repeat the process.'? With record foreclosure rates forecast for the next several years, and more all cash investors flocking to scoop up these properties, he sees the time as 'right' for new investors to get into the market and work with all cash investors to make money.?? ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) ? A music festival to support jailed members of the Russian band Pussy Riot went forward despite official pressure to cancel it, organizers said Monday.

Olga Kurnosova said city officials had tried to force her to stop Sunday's show in St. Petersburg ? President Vladimir Putin's hometown ? and firefighters had threatened to close down the Glavklub hall, claiming safety violations ahead of the concert.

About 1,000 people attended the "Free Pussy Riot Fest" headlined by the Russian rock protest bands DDT and Televizor, whose songs have long riled Soviet authorities and Putin's Kremlin.

Last month three members of Pussy Riot were sentenced to two years in jail for a "punk prayer" against Putin in Russia's largest cathedral in a trial that provoked an international outcry.

On Sunday, DDT frontman Yuri Shevchuk compared the spiraling Kremlin crackdown on political protests to Soviet-era repression of dissidents.

"In 1992, we participated in a festival against political repression," he told the audience. "Twenty years have passed, but it seems almost nothing has changed."

Several younger rock bands and rappers voiced their support for Pussy Riot from the stage Sunday, and some spectators were wearing balaclavas ? the feminist band's trademark headwear.

Dozens of riot policemen surrounded the festival venue and detained four people afterward for alleged jaywalking, Russian media reported.

Proceeds from the show will be donated to Pussy Riot and other activists in jail under Putin, organizers said.

One such activist is Taisiya Osipova, who was sentenced to eight years in prison after supporters say police planted heroin in her home for refusing to testify against her husband, a senior opposition figure.

More than 100 Russian intellectuals, including rock musicians, writers and film stars, signed an open letter to the Kremlin in July saying the Pussy Riot trial would divide Russia. But other Russian celebrities, including pop stars often seen on Kremlin-controlled television networks, have condemned the band's performance as disrespectful to Russia's dominant Orthodox Church.

Pussy Riot grew from a controversial art-protest group based in St. Petersburg. Among the group's most noted acts was the drawing of an enormous phallus on a drawbridge in St. Petersburg opposite the headquarters of the FSB, or Federal Security Service, the main KGB-successor agency.

Putin, a former KGB spy and FSB head, has compared Pussy Riot's stunt to a "witches' Sabbath."

In a video made public last week, the members of Pussy Riot who have remained free said they were "going on with their musical fight" and burned a portrait of Putin.

Serena Williams comes back to win U.S. Open

NEW YORK (AP) ? Finally tested, even trailing, at the U.S. Open, Serena Williams turned things around just in time.

Two points from defeat, Williams suddenly regained her composure and her strokes, coming back to win the last four games and beat Victoria Azarenka 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 on Sunday night for her fourth championship at Flushing Meadows and 15th Grand Slam title overall.

"I honestly can't believe I won. I really was preparing my runner-up speech, because I thought, 'Man, she's playing so great,'" Williams said during the trophy presentation after the 2-hour, 18-minute match, adding: "I'm really shocked."

Might be the only one.

After all, what really was stunning was that the top-ranked Azarenka made things as interesting as they were, given that she came into the day 1-9 against Williams.

Add in that Williams hadn't dropped a set in the tournament, losing only 19 games through six matches before Sunday. All part of a tremendous run she is putting together in reaction to her loss at the French Open in late May, the American's only first-round exit in 49 career major tournaments. Since then, she is 26-1, winning Wimbledon and the London Olympics.

There hadn't been a three-set women's final in New York since 1995, and Williams came through with a late charge to become the first woman to win Wimbledon and the U.S. Open in the same season since a decade ago, when ? yes, that's right ? she did it.

"She never gives up," said Azarenka, who managed only 13 winners, 31 fewer than Williams. "She's definitely the toughest player, mentally, there is and she's got the power."

While Azarenka, a 23-year-old from Belarus, doesn't have the name recognition or bona fides of Williams, she did win the Australian Open in January, and was 32-2 (a .941 winning percentage) on hard courts in 2012. She also hadn't dropped a three-setter all season until Sunday, going 12-0 in matches that went the distance, including victories over defending U.S. Open champion Sam Stosur in the quarterfinals and 2006 champion Maria Sharapova in the semifinals.

As Sunday's third set commenced, Williams' mother, Oracene Price, told her from the stands, "Settle down."

Didn't happen right away.

"Well, she's a human being, you know, who has two feet, two legs, two hands," Azarenka said. "It's understandable."

When Williams double-faulted, slapped a bad backhand into the net and pushed a forehand long, Azarenka broke at love for a 4-3 edge, then followed that up by holding for 5-3.

One game from the championship.

Azarenka was two points away at 30-all with the fourth-seeded Williams serving in the next game, but couldn't convert. And when Azarenka served for the victory at 5-4, she showed the jitters that probably are understandable given that this was only her second career Grand Slam final, 17 fewer than Williams.

Azarenka made three errors in that game, including a forehand into the net that let Williams break her to 5-all. Williams kept whatever excitement she might have felt contained, face straight as possible, while her older sister, seven-time major champion Venus, smiled and clapped in the stands.

That was during a key stretch in which Williams took 10 of 12 points to go ahead 6-5. She then broke again to win, dropping onto her back on the court when Azarenka sent a backhand long to end it.

"Feels like there is no room for a mistake," is the way Azarenka described trying to deal with Williams' game. "There is no room for a wrong decision."

Azarenka slumped in her changeover chair, a white towel covering her head, as Williams kept saying, "Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Oh, my God!" while scurrying over to share the joy with her mother and big sister.

"Being so close, it hurts deeply," Azarenka said. "To know you don't have it. You're close; you didn't get it."

Williams, who turns 31 on Sept. 26, is the first 30-year-old woman to win the U.S. Open since Martina Navratilova in 1987.

Williams is dominating the game right now. And she's been dominant, off and on, for more than a decade.

She won her very first major championship at age 17 at the 1999 U.S. Open. Winning titles 13 years apart at the same Grand Slam tournament represents the longest span of success in the professional era, which began in 1968. Navratilova (Wimbledon, 1978 and 1990) and Chris Evert (French Open, 1974 and 1986) had the longest previous spans of 12 years.

Every so often, though, Williams' reign has been interrupted by health problems.

She missed eight months after having surgery on her left knee in 2003, the year she had completed a self-styled "Serena Slam" by winning four consecutive major titles.

Of more concern was what happened only a few days after she won Wimbledon in 2010. Williams cut both feet on broken glass while leaving a restaurant in Germany, leading to two operations on her right foot. Then she got blood clots in her lungs and needed to inject herself with a blood thinner. Those shots led to a pool of blood gathering under her stomach's skin, requiring another procedure in the hospital.

In all, she was off the tour for about 10 months.

"She was so disgusted at home. She felt like she was useless. That's the way it is with athletes, I guess. She couldn't sit still," Price said Sunday night. "She was getting depressed. A lot to overcome."

Talk about making up for lost time.

After her stunning first-round loss at Roland Garros to a woman ranked 111th, Williams went back to work, getting help from Patrick Mouratoglou, a coach who runs a tennis academy in France. She's 14-0 in Grand Slam matches since then; the Wimbledon trophy ended a two-year drought without a major title.

Mouratoglou came to New York with Williams, and he noticed the he way she set aside her mid-match struggles.

"Players usually completely lose their confidence and they can't get all of their tennis back. But she got all her tennis back. Like nothing happened," he said. "This is what was most impressive. She's not like the other players."

In the men's final Monday, defending champion Novak Djokovic will face Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray. It's the fifth consecutive year the tournament will conclude on Monday instead of the scheduled Sunday because of bad weather.

Djokovic beat David Ferrer of Spain 2-6, 6-1, 6-4, 6-2 in a semifinal that was halted in the first set because of impending rain Saturday and wrapped up Sunday.

Worries about a potentially dangerous storm led the tournament to postpone Williams-Azarenka, making this the fourth time in the last five years that the U.S. Open women's final was pushed from Saturday to Sunday.

When they got started, Williams was good as can be, compiling a 16-2 advantage in winners through the first set.

She pounded big serves ? she finished with 13 aces, at up to 125 mph ? and big returns; smacked forehands and backhands out of Azarenka's reach; even tossed in a terrific backhand lob to break for a 2-0 lead at the outset.

Both women had issues with the officiating ? though nothing compared to Williams' misadventures in the past.

In the 2009 semifinals, Williams was angered by a foot-fault call that resulted in a double-fault, setting up match point for her opponent, Kim Clijsters. Williams launched into a racket-brandishing tirade that resulted in a fine and a Grand Slam probation that made her be on her best behavior or risk being suspended. Then, while losing to Stosur in last year's final, Williams lost her cool and berated the chair umpire ? "You're just unattractive inside," was among the noteworthy lines ? after being docked a point for screaming during a point.

This time, there was a foot-fault call, too. It came with Williams serving at 40-love while trailing 2-0 in the second set. She didn't react at all immediately, finished off that game, then stared down the linesman as she walked to the sideline at the ensuing changeover. He chuckled a bit.

"I'm just happy that she got thru this one without any incident and was able to try to forget all that in the past," Price said. "Because I think that was a lot in her mind."

Actually, by then, Williams had bigger problems to worry about.

She double-faulted to get broken in that set's opening game, and got broken again to fall behind 4-1 in a game that featured Azarenka sliding into a running forehand winner and nearly doing a full splits. Even Williams applauded that one.

But when the game ended, Williams slapped her racket against her changeover chair.

Azarenka also had a minor run-in with the chair umpire Sunday, complaining when a point she thought she should have won was replayed.

"You're hilarious," Azarenka said, her words and grin drenched in sarcasm.

Do social networking web sites make you fat?

ScienceDaily (Sep. 10, 2012) ? Time spent on social networking sites comes at the expense of other activities -- including physical activity, new research by the University of Ulster has revealed.

That is one of the findings of a study presented at the annual conference of the British Psychological Society's Division of Health Psychology in Liverpool at the weekend.

Around 350 students at the University of Ulster completed an online survey -measuring social networking activity and levels of physical activity.

The research was carried out by Masters degree student Emer O'Leary, under the supervision of psychologists, Dr Wendy Cousins and Dr Tadhg Macintyre at the University of Ulster.

The results showed that the vast majority of students used social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter spend an average of one hour a day online. In the physical activity questionnaire, just over half the students were classified as; 'moderately active' and a third were 'high activity', with a minority (12.7 per cent) falling into the 'low physical activity' group. A quarter of the respondents said they took part in team sports.

When the results were analysed, researchers found that the amount of time spent on social network websites was negatively correlated with the respondents' level of physical activity in the previous week. Facebook fans were also less likely to take part in team sports, but this effect was less pronounced.

Dr Cousins said: "Time is a finite resource, so time spent in social networking must come at the expense of other activities. Our study suggests that physical activity may be one of those activities.

"Our findings are intriguing, but we have not conclusively demonstrated that social networking causes lower levels of physical activity. We will need to carry out more research to see if it really is a case of Facebook makes you fat rather than Twitter makes you fitter."

Line judge Shannon Eastin makes history in NFL

DETROIT (AP) ? Shannon Eastin has made NFL history.

Eastin was the line judge in Sunday's St. Louis Rams-Detroit Lions game, making her the first woman to be an official in a regular-season game.

She is among the replacement officials hired by the league while the regular officials are locked out. Replacement officials are working games for the first time in 11 years.

The only time her pony tail could be seen was during the national anthem, after which she tucked it under her cap and got ready to work.

Eastin became the first female official to work an NFL preseason game last month as the line judge when Green Bay played at San Diego. The Pro Football Hall of Fame has the hat and whistle she used during that preseason game, and they'll be displayed in Canton, Ohio.

The 42-year-old resident of Tempe, Ariz. has worked as a referee in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference ? college football's second-highest level ? and has 16 years of officiating experience. MEAC officials declined comment on Eastin, as did the NFL in the days leading up to the groundbreaking assignment.

"Commenting on individual officials is not something we do," league spokesman Greg Aiello wrote in an email. "Her place in league history speaks for itself."

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has said having Eastin on the field is a great opportunity for her and the league.

"She's well prepared for it, and I think she'll do terrific," Goodell said last month. "So we're excited about that.

"And there are more coming, by the way. We've been working along this path to try to properly train and prepare a female official, and now we have the opportunity."

The NFL declined to make Eastin available for interviews during the week leading up to the game and didn't plan to allow media to have access to her following the Rams-Lions game, but did set up a conference call with her in August.

"I hope to show it really doesn't matter if you are male or female," Eastin said last month.

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Larry Foote believes it is good for the game to have female officials, even though he worries about her safety working alongside some of the world's biggest, strongest and fastest athletes.

"Women are more honest and fair than men and they know how to catch a man cheating," Foote said. "I hope she's just a line judge. Don't want her to get hurt."

Eastin, who is originally from Worcester, Mass., was a multiple national judo champion as a child and started officiating high school games before moving up to colleges. She owns a company called SE Sports Officiating, which trains officials in football and basketball.

"I'll be working even harder, to show I am capable and I am where I should be," Eastin has said.

She is joining a small group of women to break into officiating ranks at the highest levels of sports.

"It's a sign of the times," Lions center Dominic Raiola said. "The NBA did it."

Violet Palmer, one of Eastin's inspirations, started officiating NBA games in 1997 and is still in the league. Bernice Gera became the first woman to work in baseball's minor leagues in 1972 as an umpire in a New York-Penn League game. Pam Postema umpired major league spring training games in 1989 and Triple-A baseball for six seasons.

The locked-out NFL Referees Association has said Eastin shouldn't be allowed to work league games because she has been in the World Series of Poker. If Eastin is hired permanently, the NFL's gambling policy would bar her from participating in such events.

Basketball Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman, the first woman to play and coach against men in professional basketball, is glad the NFL's labor problems with its regular officials opened a door for Eastin.

"She doesn't have to hit anybody, she just has to know the rules," Lieberman said. "She won't be defined by her gender if she does her job. And while this is not normal for the rest of the world to see, this is very normal for her because she works as an official for a living."

Kathy Babiak, co-director of SHARP, a partnership between the Women's Sports Foundation and the University of Michigan, said Eastin's accomplishment is encouraging.

"It shows the strides women and girls in sports have been making since Title IX was passed 40 years ago," Babiak said. "Before Title IX, these kinds of opportunities for women and girls were not even imaginable. It shows that women and girls have a desire, interest and ability to work in sports at all levels ? even men's professional sports.

"Some girl will be watching Sunday and say, 'Hey, I want to do the same thing!'"

Cavendish looking for amicable departure from Team Sky

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain's world road cycling champion Mark Cavendish wants an amicable end to his Team Sky contract less than a year after signing for Dave Brailsford's outfit, he said on Saturday.

Cavendish, who has won 23 stages of the Tour de France, will meet Brailsford at the Tour of Britain, which starts in Ipswich on Sunday, and is hoping the principal will not demand any compensation for allowing the rider to join another team.

"I want the best for British cycling, it has grown so much and we had this idea that we could have this British super team," he told a news conference ahead of the Tour of Britain.

"We can win GCs (general classifications), we can win stages, we can win the green jersey, we can just go and dominate and Dave sold me that idea last year but for some reason or another it hasn't worked out like that. It's difficult to do."

With Sky's efforts focused on helping Bradley Wiggins win the Tour de France there has been speculation Cavendish could join the Belgian team Omega-Pharma-Liquigas and be reunited with his sporting director at HTC-Highroad, Brian Holm.

On the Tour Cavendish sacrificed his chances of successfully defending the green jersey he won for the first time in 2011 and worked as a domestique.

"Winning the yellow jersey is the biggest thing in cycling, for me not to want a team and a company I love not to go and do the biggest thing would be wrong," said the 27-year-old Manxman.

"But obviously it restricts me and what I can do as a professional cyclist myself. I have got an ambition of winning as many stages as I can in the Tour de France and I want to be somewhere I can do that. We had ambitions that can't work out."

Cavendish is edging closer to Eddy Merckx's 34 Tour de France stage wins after taking the 18th and 20th stages and triumphing on the Champs-Elysees for a fourth straight year but his ambitions are clearly at odds with Sky's.

AMICABLE SOLUTION

"If they want to go and do it again, why not? The yellow jersey is the biggest prize in sport, but Dave's stated ambitions are not really involving sprinters or a green jersey or stage wins so that puts me in a position where I am lost.

"Rather than kicking and screaming I hope we can come to an amicable solution and we can have the best for both parties."

Despite being unsettled, Cavendish had a successful season, winning 12 times, including the three stages at the Tour.

"I've been very happy at Sky. I am still happy at Sky. It's the guys I grew up racing with, a management I grew up racing with. I don't want to compromise Sky and hopefully Sky won't compromise me," added Cavendish.

"I've not said anything before, I've just heard things and read things. The Tour de France is the hardest sprint event in the world and it became apparent this year that you can't go in with a two-pronged attack.

"I was incredibly proud to be part of that team that won a yellow - that was a big thing in my career, it will go down as possibly the biggest thing of my career.

"I've got a two-year contract with Sky and it will be interesting to see what Dave says. I've seen some... talk of a release fee but I don't think Dave would do that.

"I've known Dave since I was 14. He has seen me grow my career and I've seen him grow and conduct the most successful team in cycling and I hope that (a release fee) is just speculation and everything can work out amicably for everyone."

(AP) ? A teenage suicide bomber blew himself up outside NATO headquarters in the Afghan capital on Saturday, killing at least six civilians in a strike that targeted the heart of the U.S.-led military operation in the country, officials said.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the blast, which was the latest in a series of insurgent attacks in the heavily-fortified Afghan capital aimed at undercutting a months-long campaign by the U.S.-led coalition to shore up security in Kabul before a significant withdrawal of combat troops limits American options.

While bombings and shootings elsewhere in Afghanistan often receive relatively little attention, attacks in the capital score propaganda points for the insurgents by throwing doubt on the government's ability to provide security even the seat of its power. The attacks also aim to undermine coalition claims of improving security ahead of the planned withdrawal of foreign troops by the end of 2014.

The bomber struck just before noon Saturday outside the headquarters of the U.S.-led NATO coalition, on a street that connects the alliance headquarters to the nearby U.S. and Italian embassies, a large U.S. military base and the Afghan Defense Ministry.

The alliance and police said all of the dead were Afghans, and the Ministry of Interior said some were street children. Kabul police said in a statement that the bomber was 14 years old.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, saying the target was a U.S. intelligence facility nearby.

German Brig. Gen. Gunter Katz, the spokesman for the U.S.-led international military alliance, said there were no coalition casualties.

Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi blamed the attack on the Haqqani network, one of the most dangerous militant groups fighting U.S.-led forces in Afghanistan. He did not say what he was basing that conclusion on, but the Haqqani group, which is linked to both the Taliban and al-Qaida, has been responsible for several high-profile attacks in the Afghan capital in the past.

On Friday, the U.S. designated the Pakistan-based Haqqani network a terrorist organization, a move that bans Americans from doing business with members of the group and blocks any assets it holds in the United States.

The Obama administration went forward with the decision despite misgivings about how the largely symbolic act could further stall planned Afghan peace talks or put yet another chill on the United States' already fragile counterterrorism alliance with Pakistan.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mijahid said the decision will have no impact on the war against the Afghan government and U.S.-led forces, and added that the Haqqanis were part of the Taliban and not a separate group. He said its founder, Jalaluddin Haqqani, was a loyal member of the Taliban leadership council and a "person of trust" to the movement's leader, Mullah Mohammed Omar.

"It will not have a negative effect on our struggle and we are rejecting this announcement," Mujahid said in an email.

The Haqqani network has been blamed for a series of high profile attacks against foreign targets in Kabul, including coordinated attacks last April against NATO and government facilities that lasted more than a day before the insurgents were killed. A year ago, they were blamed for a rocket-propelled grenade assault on the U.S. Embassy and NATO headquarters. In June, gunmen stormed a lakeside hotel near Kabul and 18 people in a 12-hour rampage.

American officials estimate the Haqqani forces at 2,000 to 4,000 fighters and say the group maintains close ties with al-Qaida.

Earlier Saturday, hundreds of Afghans and officials had gathered just a few hundred meters (yards) from the site of the attack to lay wreaths at a statue to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the death of Ahmad Shah Massoud, the charismatic Northern Alliance commander who was killed in an al-Qaida suicide bombing two days before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The alliance joined with the United States to help rout the Taliban after America invaded Afghanistan a month later in the wake of the attacks.

Nuts From the Family Tree: Recharging, Charging Forward

Every once in a bit, usually around some holiday or other, I have a slump. Maybe you do too? Don't get me wrong: I do love genealogy for a lot of reasons. But even with something you love, a break does a body good:)

What pulled me out of the Labor Day Slump of 2012 was a wonderful seminar sponsored by the San Diego Genealogical Society featuring Lisa Alzo yesterday. It was top quality and I couldn't have asked for more... or taken it because my head was full! Lisa was a wonderful speaker and for just $40, including lunch, what's not to like?

I love the intellectual stimulation and challenges a day like this brings. Sitting there listening to a well-crafted presentation and having my mind feel like it's free to roam and come up with other thoughts, other solutions as I look into each of the concepts presented. I keep a list going during times like this where I capture all of the random thoughts that come so freely flowing: blog topics, places to look for brick wall ancestors, new strategies to employ.

Here's an example something Lisa included in her first presentation that might apply to my recent quest looking for Jane James Williams my GGGM. Birds Of Passage, or those who come to a country and later?go back to their homeland. Some stay put, wanting nothing more to do with The New World. But Lisa expanded that definition for me to include individuals who might have gone back and forth bringing over relatives and helping them get settled in America, then going back for others. This brought a new thought to the Williams family and had me thinking differently about some ships lists.

At lunch I randomly sat next to a fellow attendee and we got chatting about our interests. I mentioned the Williams people from Wales and she reminded me of a film Mom had talked about but I'd forgotten: How Green Was My Valley. Made in 1941 in black and white and directed by John Ford, it tells the story of hard life in a Welsh mining community. I saw it a number of years ago but I wanted to revisit it now in light of the Williams people. My luncheon companion said that she'd read the book and it was really nice... so when I got home I popped on Amazon and bought it for -- are you ready -- a penny!! Can't wait to read it:)

It did me a world of good to go to that seminar yesterday. Now I'm all charged up and ready to go:)
